'Deer Park Thimphu - A Center for Art and Contemplation' was established in 2007 under the auspices of Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche. Our name:
'Deer Park' commemorates the auspicious event in Sarnath, India, where the Buddha turned the wheel of Dharma for the benefit of all sentient beings. The name helps us reflect on the deep significance of those precious teachings, and acts as a reminder of the spirit of openness and compassion in which they were presented.
'Art and Contemplation' stresses the interdependence of the two disciplines. Without the space that arises in the mind through contemplation, art has no room for expression. Likewise, without art and culture, the contemplative disciplines have no tangible means by which to connect with our minds. Our welcome:
The accumulated drops of water of every individual aspiration is the flowing river called 'Deer Park Thimphu'. Therefore, we warmly welcome everyone to whole-heartedly participate in our activities and create waves of momentum that will benefit all beings.
Deer Park events are free and open to everyone with a sincere interest in exploring the sacred path of Gautama Buddha.
